Reiki is a gentle, drug-free way to accelerate healing, relieve pain, restore balance, and revitalize and enhance well being in humans and animals.
It is closely related to forms of exercise and martial arts which manipulate the body’s energy and/or channel life energy to correct imbalances in the body and it’s energy network.
It is a natural and non-invasive healing modality that can reduce stress and allow the body to heal physically, mentally, and emotionally. It can reach core problems on the deepest cellular, molecular and energetic levels in order to heal, balance and harmonize.
Reiki has the potential to improve the results of medical treatment, reduce negative side effects, shorten healing time, decrease or eliminate pain, reduce stress, and help create optimism. It also improves the effectiveness of all other types of therapy by maximizing the effectiveness of the healing energy within.
This energy has different names in different cultures and countries; ki in Japan, chi in China, Prana in India, logos in Greece and so on around the world. It has been used by advanced healing practitioners for thousands of years. For those of you who are more empirical and prefer a scientific explanation it is the same “energy” that can be transmuted into matter and back again through varying harmonic frequencies in the Unified Field Theory proposed by Albert Einstein, mastered by Nikola Tesla, and readapted in recent times by Capt. Bruce Cathie. In fact, the modern medical industry has only recently discovered how to qualify and quantify this energy through very sophisticated technology, and is working to “catch up” to what intuitive healers have known for centuries.
When I place my hands lightly on, or slightly above a client’s fully clothed body, the energy flows through my hands into them, and provides a calming, soothing, healing experience. It is a peaceful, gentle process that enhances the well being of whoever receives it. Unlike shamanism or faith healing, the fully clothed “patient” does not have to believe in Reiki for it to be effective, and I (as the healer) do not assimilate or “take on” any of the afflicted client’s pain or disease myself. In fact, a Reiki session often revitalizes the healer as well, which is the opposite of most massage therapy and healing modalities. The Reiki master healer and the client receive the same energy, so the healing process is empowering for all.
Reiki comes from a very old healing tradition. There is no written record of exactly where and how it was first taught but it was most recently re-discovered and re-introduced to the world in the late 1800's by a Japanese seminary instructor named Dr. Mikao Usui.
A brief historical summary tells us that one of Dr.Usui’s theological students asked him about the healing technique used by Jesus as mentioned in the bible. Dr.Usui did not know the correct answer and became deeply driven to learn about this mystery. He traveled the world over seeking the answer and eked out a living along the way. Amazingly, he found the secret he was looking for after returning to Japan. In an ancient Buddhist temple in the city of Kyoto, he unearthed long forgotten manuscripts which contained the Reiki techniques and then thankfully shared the long lost treasure with the world.
I offer Reiki to dogs not as competition to veterinary medicine, but as a complement to it! It should be used along with proper care including: fresh water, nutritious food, a safe and interactive living environment, and of course, a loving home.
My name is John King. I can help you and your dog feel better. I am a Certified Level Three Master in the gentle yet powerful Japanese healing art of Reiki. This means I’ve achieved the highest level of proficiency possible within this therapeutic, intuitive healing, modality, and I have nine years of experience healing dogs and “their humans” in both Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
In my hands, clients experience pain relief, stress reduction, increased energy, soothing calmness and a vibrant enhancement of their overall well being.
But don’t just take my word for it…
My human clientele have shared many glowing testimonials about how I’ve helped them and you will read their quotes that appear throughout this website.
My canine clients also rave about me, but in their own language. They may smile and show their teeth and tongue, put their ears back, look sharper than before, or simply relax and radiate peace because they feel better, have less pain, and are more balanced than they were before their healing sessions. You will view their photos that appear throughout this website.
A Reiki session looks a lot like a regular massage except that the client lays fully clothed on the massage table, and there is no pulling, pushing, kneading or outwardly physical manipulation of their muscles. The Reiki master gently places their hands on, or just above the client’s body, and will move their hands to new positions when necessary.
While my human clients understand that they need to lie down face up, and fully clothed on my massage table for a session to begin and do so willingly, dogs are sometimes a different story. We try to begin on a table if possible, but if not, I can work with the dog on the ground, in their bed, or wherever they are most comfortable. Usually, those who are standing or sitting up will lie down once they feel the energy begin to flow. However, my treatment positions must be flexible when working with dogs.
Once your dog is comfortable, I'll place my hands lightly on, or just above the surface of their body in a series of positions around their head and shoulders, stomach, and back. Each position is held until there is a shift in the energy at that location, but various positions and durations may be used based on your pet's needs and acceptance of the “hands on” treatment.
The process is very relaxing, so many of my canine (and human!) clients doze off in whatever peaceful, harmonious, atmosphere they prefer. Depending on what’s in their home this may be soothing music, waterfalls, fountains, bells, chimes, or even quiet stillness…
The Reiki experience varies somewhat from person to person and dog to dog, but feelings of deep relaxation are common. Many clients feel a wonderful glowing radiance flowing through and around them. Reiki energy is healing, always, and facilitates the release of tension, anxiety, fear and other negative feelings, so a state of peace and well-being is often experienced.
Following a session your dog may feel slightly dehydrated and may want to drink water or need to be walked, but they will be truly relaxed, restored, and renewed.
